Joan Wiley Seielstad passed away October 22, 2010. She was born April 1, 1931, in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Pagosa Springs High School and received a B.A. in business from the University of Denver.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William “Bill” Seielstad, her mother, Marguerite “Peggy” Hersch Wiley, and her brother, Milt Wiley. She is survived by her three daughters: Karen (Howard) Heck, Eileen (Forrest) Yelverton and Barbara (Michael) Shoptaugh, along with three grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher and Kelly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Carol Wiley and six nieces, Nancy, Amy, Susie and Janet Wiley, Stephanie Mattson and Rebecca Rhine.
Joan was a seasoned traveler, and while she enjoyed seeing all corners of the world with Bill, there was no place she loved more than Pagosa Springs. She was a strong advocate of the community, and served many years on the Pagosa Springs Town Board, the Upper San Juan Library District Board, and was a founding board member of the Southwest Colorado Mental Health Center. She loved to ski, read and play bridge. She treasured her family and her many longtime friends, and she will truly be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at 1:30 at Community United Methodist Church in Pagosa Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Upper San Juan Library District (P.O. Box 849, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147).
