Youth basketball season begins Nov. 11

Rosters for the 7-8 youth basketball program have been finalized and practices are slated to begin Thursday, Nov. 11.

Parents who have not heard from a head coach as of Monday should call the recreation office to obtain roster information. Schedules for this year’s program will be available in the recreation office in Town Hall by the middle of next week and will also be posted on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

Games are tentatively scheduled to begin Nov. 18. Due to the limited amount of gym space available during the holiday season, games will be played Monday-Thursday at either 5:30 or 6:25 p.m. through mid-December. All games will be played in the Ross Aragon Community Center gymnasium.

Registration for the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will begin in mid-November; the season for these divisions will not begin until early January.

For more information call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Soccer photos

Coaches and parents who ordered youth soccer photos can contact Jeff Laydon at Pagosa Photography, 264-3686, to arrange pick up of their orders. The recreation office will provide sponsors with team plaques and pictures as soon as they are available.

The recreation staff would also like to thank Mr. Laydon for accommodating another busy schedule during this year’s youth soccer season.

This year marks the 14th year Jeff has offered professional photography service to our programs while donating all of the team photographs used in the commemorative plaques free of charge; thanks again.

Disc golf

With the recent addition of another nine holes, the disc golf course on the south side of Reservoir Hill is now complete.

For as long as weather permits, veteran players and beginners alike can test their skills on the 18-hole course, which occupies roughly 10 acres on the hill’s southwest meadow. Players can access the course by taking Hot Springs Boulevard to Spring Street. From Spring Street, proceed on foot through the gate and look for the first hole on the north side of the meadow approximately one-quarter of a mile up the road. Tee boxes and baskets have been flagged for better visibility.

The recreation office is monitoring the use of the course, and would like to hear comments concerning this location from disc golfers and others who use Reservoir Hill for recreational purposes. Anyone wishing to comment can call the office at 264-4151, Ext. 232. Comments can also be e-mailed to tcarosello@centurytel.net.

For more information on the game of disc golf and the course itself, contact Michael Carol at mcc@newmex.com.

Youth volleyball

Throughout the season, all 9- and 10-year-olds will practice from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. primarily Mondays and Wednesdays plus an occasional Tuesday, and 11- and 12-year-olds will practice between 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. the same nights. Games will only be played in the 11-12 division and will begin next week.

Practice and game schedules are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and have also been posted in Adobe format on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.
