St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church has announced the formation of a new children’s choir ministry under the direction of Sally Neel, St. Patrick’s organist and choir director. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to attend rehearsals each Friday afternoon from 4–5 p.m. in the church to prepare music for worship and for the upcoming Christmas Eve Children’s Service.
“Children are an important part of the life of our community,” says Fr. Doug Neel, rector of St. Patrick’s. “We are very pleased to offer them this opportunity to contribute their special gifts, and we look forward to hearing their voices in song,” he said.
Sally Neel, trained in organ and voice at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, has had a long career of directing both children and adult choirs in churches across Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. In Pagosa Springs, she has participated in productions with Music Boosters both as an actor and as a musician. Most recently, she prepared and directed the music for Music Boosters’ production of “Annie.”
“Working with children is a special joy,” she said. “Children bring a sweetness and sincerity to their songs that just cannot be matched anywhere else. I look forward to working with this new choir and hope that it will continue to be an important ministry at our church for many years to come.”
