Kids packing shoeboxes on Nov. 6

Imagine a room full of 100-plus kids packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. You would see lots of happy kids with smiling faces helping others.

Local children will have that opportunity on Saturday, Nov. 6. A shoebox packing party for children 5-10 will take place at Centerpoint Church from 10 a.m.-noon With the support of seven area churches and lots of volunteers, kids will learn how joyful it is to help another child in need.

The free event will start promptly at 10 a.m. (come by 9:45 to get registered). Kids, accompanied by an adult, will first learn about Operation Christmas Child before filling shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. Local photographers will take pictures of the children, which will go into the shoeboxes along with a personal letter.

Following the packing of the shoeboxes, a snack will be served, and the families will enjoy the Veggie Tales movie, β€œSt. Nicholas β€” A Story of Joyful Giving.” It is our hope that children will experience the joy of giving and realize that they can help others less fortunate.

Centerpoint Church is located at 2750 Cornerstone Drive near Family Dollar.
