The Durango VA Health Care clinic will be providing all enrolled veterans with free flu shots on Oct. 15, between the hours of 1 and 4: p.m.
The flu shot clinic will be held in the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting room at the Archuleta County Courthouse in downtown Pagosa Springs.
Veterans must be enrolled in VA Health Care to receive this free flu vaccine. Eligible veterans can also stop by the Durango VA Clinic at any time for a flu shot.
No appointment is necessary for the local flu shot clinic or the Durango VAHC Clinic.
VA hearing aids
It appears the VA has really liberalized issuing hearing aids to veterans enrolled in VAHC.
I’m learning from our veterans who have hearing loss that the VA is almost routinely providing hearing aids to eligible veterans, including those without any VA Service-Connected Disabilities.
Veterans enrolled in VAHC should discuss their hearing problem with their VA primary care provider for hearing tests appointment and possible hearing aids from the Albuquerque VAMC.
I strongly urge our veterans to obtain a printout copy of their VA hearing test results and come by and see me for possible filing of a Service-Connected Disability Claim for hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). You can obtain your VA Medical Records in the basement of the Albuquerque VAMC by signing a release of information form.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization is running a VAHC van from Durango on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call Mike Dunaway, 247-2198, and from the Farmington area on Mondays and Wednesdays, call Harriet Mulnix, (505) 793-1782.
