The leaves are turning and fall is in the air. Mother Nature’s artful colors are the perfect complement to the artwork that will be on display by many of Pagosa’s talented artists.
This year’s Artists’ Studio and Gallery Tour — Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 3, from noon-5 p.m. — brought to you by the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, is sure to delight everyone.
Free to the public, the tour allows you to get an intimate look at several artists’ home studios . Get to know some of the artists and take a peek at how these artists work and what inspires their artwork.
At Studio No. 1, Kathleen and Anthony Steventon will demonstrate their artwork and have on display for purchase their beautiful color-infused paintings. Learn more about this talented couple at www.steventonart.com.

Pierre Mion, at Studio No. 3, is a nationally and internationally known artist. More about Pierre can be found on his website at www.pierremion.com.
Linda Hogan will be at Studio No. 5. Linda’s unique artwork was recently featured in the Pagosa Sun. Learn more about Linda at www.lindahoganart.com.
Sandy Applegate and Chris Nelson will both be at Studio No. 6. Sandy’s paintings are as varied as the artist. Sandy’s work is unique and often unexpected. Gerry and Marcia Kmack will demonstrate their artwork at Studio No. 7. See Marcia at work on her lampwork beads which have been featured in books and magazines and are the basis for numerous jewelry creations in town. Five local galleries are on the tour this year. See several artists and their work in one stop. Studio No. 4 is The Artist Within, a new gallery that opened in May 2010. See the work of Delores Highsmith, Annie Jacobi, Dee Pitchon, and Carol Schneider at this gallery that is entirely devoted to jewelry and fiber art. Located on Village Drive behind the City Market Plaza uptown, The Artist Within offers unique jewelry and gift items.
Estudio Y Galleria is Studio #8, located on Put Hill next to the Let It Fly shop. You’ll see a wide range of gift items from pottery to jewelry to pine needle baskets made by local artists David Harris, Sueyel Grace, Varina Boudreaux, and Tessie Garcia. This unique shop, which also opened in May 2010, is both a gallery and a pottery studio.
The next gallery at Studio No. 9 is Wild Spirit Gallery. Five artists will be demonstrating in the gallery: Syl Holly-Lobato, Jessica Peterson, Susan Martin-Serra, Treva Wheeless (guest), and Jeanine Malaney. Enjoy a range of artwork in this charming gallery located in downtown Pagosa across from the Courthouse.
Just past the downtown area next to Farragos Market Cafe is Artisans of the Southwest Gallery and Winery at Studio No. 10. Enjoy a glass of eclectic wine while viewing the artistry of Wen Saunders, Buster Griggs, and others. The paintings, photography, and jewelry on display represent the West at its best.
The last stop on the tour is Studio No. 11, The Painted Pony Gallery. View the work of several local artists at this unique gallery and consignment shop. Artwork in a wide variety of mediums will be on display.
Twenty-five artists will be displaying their work on this year’s tour, with all art sales by cash or check (preferred). Each studio stop on the tour will also offer an item for lottery drawing. Tickets for the drawing are free with a purchase of the artist’s work or $5 for additional chances to win or for entering the drawing without a purchase. All proceeds from the drawings will go to Pagosa Springs Arts Council.
