“Pianist, Poet, Comedian” is a joyful concert featuring the multifaceted talents of John Graves, with three of his favorite musical collaborators: world-class percussionist DC Duncan, and consummate song stylists, Johnny K and Natalie Oman.
This exciting not-to-be-missed event takes place 7-9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at The Ross Aragon Community Center.
The pre-concert social begins at 6:00 p.m. with free coffee and nibbles, a wine/beer cash bar and background piano music by John Graves — followed by the main show, which begins at 7 p.m.
Advance tickets for $10 are available at the community center and Higher Grounds Coffee Company, through Thursday, Sept. 16. Tickets at the door are $12. Young people, 18 and under, will be admitted free.
With plenty of music, laughs, fun and surprises, “Pianist, Poet, Comedian” is a rare opportunity to get a full-spectrum appreciation of John Graves, Pagosa’s cultural icon.
A professor emeritus of mass communication, Graves moved to Pagosa in 1996. He has contributed greatly to our local cultural scene as performer, producer, writer, consultant and mentor — and he has a local following of enthusiastic fans that avail themselves every opportunity to see him perform.
Graves has performed music professionally, beginning as a child and continuing throughout his distinguished careers as television and film executive/producer and college professor. During the golden years of Hollywood entertainment, Graves performed with George Burns, Jimmy Durante, Redd Fox, Rudy Vallee, Rosemary Clooney, June Christy, as well as with many other singers and musicians. He has performed at thousands of parties, at all the top banquet facilities in the LA area, and at private parties for Judy Garland, Groucho Marx, Danny Thomas, John Wayne, Jack LaLanne, ABC, NBC and MGM.
Come to “Pianist, Poet, Comedian” when John Graves pull out all the stops, with cohorts DC Duncan, Johnny K and Natalie Oman, Friday, Sept. 17.
