PSWGA to host match play event Aug. 5

Eight members of the Pagosa Springs Women’s Golf Association traveled to the Dalton Ranch Golf Club, July 22, for its fourth match play event of the season.

The ladies totaled 38.5 points gross and 37 points net against the San Juan Country Club team.

Team captain Cherry O’Donnell said, “The team really rose to the occasion through wet and rainy conditions on a very challenging course.” The team is currently fifth place gross and seventh place net halfway through the season.

The Pagosa contingent included Jan Kilgore, Barbara Sanborn, Cherry O’Donnell, Nancy Mackensen, Josie Hummel, Carrie Weisz, Doe Stringer and Barb Lewis.

The next match play event will be hosted by the Pagosa Springs Golf Club, Aug. 5.

The association featured a three-person scramble format for its league day, July 27. The ladies played the Pinon Ponderosa courses with a par rating of 71.

Two teams captured first place honors — each with a 78 gross score. They were Jan Kilgore, Bonnie Hoover and Sue Martin; and Carrie Weisz, Robyn Alspach and Lynne Winterton. The team of Cherry O’Donnell, Donna Gregory and Pat Deason placed second with a score of 80.

Immediately following the round, the ladies reconvened at the lovely home of Nancy Mackensen to enjoy a delicious potluck luncheon, and league president, Leslie Fluharty, conducted their July meeting.
