Fair royalty entry deadline extended

The entry deadline for Archuleta County Fair Royalty entries has been extended to Friday, July 30.

The contest is open to all young ladies in the county who meet the age requirements.  There will not be a pageant, however royalty hopefuls will be required to complete an essay application, participate in an interview process and deliver a prepared speech in a public setting.  A panel of judges will select a Queen, Princess and Junior Princess based these activities.

Applicants must be enrolled in an Archuleta County school (public or private) or be home schooled in the county (or parts of Hinsdale and Mineral Counties included in School District 50 Joint) and meet the following age (as of July 1, 2010) requirements:

• Queen — 14-18 years old (no graduating seniors).

• Princess — 11-13 years old.

• Junior Princess — 8-10 years old.

Applications must be turned in by Friday, July 30, 2010.  Dropoff point will be the Archuleta County Extension Office.

Interviews will be held on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 1, time and place to be announced.

Speech presentations will be during the Volunteers Luncheon on Aug. 5 and the Coronation Ceremony will be held during the Chili Cookoff on Sunday, Aug. 8. An official photo session will be scheduled shortly after the winners are announced.
