Register your team for adult sand volleyball

For the fourth consecutive year, adult sand volleyball will be offered by the recreation department at the South Pagosa Park sand volleyball courts.

This year, there will be no fees for registration as games will be informal and played without a referee. However, if there is enough interest in the program (at least six teams), the courts will be reserved for play and a league schedule and game balls will be provided.

The tentative plan is for games to be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with play beginning later this month and continuing for approximately six weeks.

If interested in registering a team in this year’s program, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.

Youth tennis

The July session of youth tennis begins next week at the Wyndham Resorts tennis courts; all registered participants will be notified of their practice times before the weekend.

Players with previous experience will be separated from beginners, and the tentative plan is to hold staggered practice sessions Monday through Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Wyndham Resorts courts. The maximum number of participants is limited to 16. The program implements the U.S.T.A. “Quick Start” Tennis Instructional Program and adheres to a “play to learn” rather than “learn to play” motto.

Participants must have nonmarking-soled athletic or tennis shoes. The recreation department has some racquets available, but participants are welcome to use their own equipment.

For more information, call Andy Rice at 264-4151, Ext. 231, or Dale Schwicker, Wyndham Resorts tennis professional, at 731-3363.

Due to the withdrawal of a team from the men’s softball division, this year’s men’s schedule has undergone a major change.

The new schedule for the men’s division was updated June 17 and has been posted on the recreation department link at The coed schedule remains the same.

Team registration fees are $250, plus a $30 fee per player. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Town of Pagosa Springs. Team managers are reminded that the team fee is due before the start of each team’s first game; each player’s fee is due prior to the player’s second game. Players are reminded that all alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited on school grounds.

For more information call Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151, Ext. 231.

The Town of Pagosa Springs town is accepting tax-deductible donations to be used for the maintenance and extended operation of the pump for Pinon Lake Fountain.

Donations in any amount will be accepted at the front desk in Town Hall; checks and money orders can be made payable to Town of Pagosa Springs with “fountain” on the subject line.

For those interested in mailing a contribution, donations should be addressed “Attention: Fountain” and mailed to P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. If you would like to make a cash donation, please do so in person at the front desk in Town Hall.

The fountain is now running daily from about dawn until dusk, and is tentatively scheduled to run through the end of August, due to generous donations from Wyndham Resorts, Archuleta County and the public.

For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.
