On Tuesday, June 15, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, recognized Cedar McGrath, of Pagosa Springs, for her efforts to transform Dulce (N.M.) Elementary School into a healthier place for students and staff.
McGrath has worked in Dulce public schools for six years.
To earn this award, McGrath found innovative ways to implement program and policy changes that support good nutrition and improve access to physical activity at school. Dulce elementary is a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program, which provides free support and technical assistance to more than 9,000 schools nationwide to help them reverse the national trend in childhood obesity. Schools are eligible for Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum National Recognition awards based on their level of achievement.
