The Treasure Falls parking area and trail on U.S. 160 at the base of Wolf Creek Pass will be temporarily closed this summer to allow the Pagosa Ranger District to remove unstable trees from the area.
The closure is necessary to protect the public from the potential threat of falling trees. Hazardous conditions have been created by an outbreak of an infectious tree disease known as Armillaria, which causes trees to become unstable and subject to sudden failure.
The parking area, toilets and trail system will be closed to the public from Friday, June 11, to Tuesday, June 15. ?Although the parking area and toilets will reopen to the public on Wednesday, June 16, the Treasure Falls interpretive trail will remain closed for the rest of the summer and fall until all phases of work are completed.
