‘We Are America,’ Rotary Independence Day parade

“We are America.”

This statement conjures up freedom, Washington crossing the Delaware, the Statue of Liberty, the space program, different cultures, Daniel Boone, countless immigrants, baseball, rock and roll, and all that this beautiful land of ours exemplifies.

“We are America” is the theme of the annual Pagosa Springs Rotary Independence Day Parade. This year, it is important to note that the parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3.

With the expanded weekend of celebrations, a greater number of entries are expected.

Applications are now available at the Chamber of Commerce or you can download the application directly from The SUN website, . The parade committee is encouraging all entries to decorate their floats using the theme and appropriate Independence Day decor.  Have fun and be creative! This is your opportunity to celebrate your idea of what “We Are America” means to you.

As in years past, absolutely no items or candy are to be thrown from the entries. Those walking alongside the entry may hand items out only after the entry has passed the clock tower. If candy is important to you, get your viewing spot past the clock tower. The Town of Pagosa Springs Police Department and the Pagosa Springs Rotary enforce this for safety reasons, as they want to ensure a good time for all.

So, Pagosa, put on your creative thinking caps and get your applications turned into the Chamber of Commerce no later than June 28. After that date, you can still enter at the registration booth on the day of the parade, but your entry will be placed at the end of the parade.

Be a part of one of Pagosa’s most celebrated and enjoyed events of the year.
