The Pagosa Women’s Golf Association is finally back on the links to kick off its 2010 season, after several weeks of very challenging and breezy conditions.
The ladies played a modified Odd and Even format for their league day, May 18. They tallied their gross scores from Pinon Nos. 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 and Ponderosa Nos. 3, 6, 8 and 9, then deducted one half of their respective handicaps for their nine-hole aggregate scores.
In the First Flight, Cherry O’Donnell captured first place with a 35; Carrie Weisz was second with a 36, and third went to Jan Kilgore with a 38.5. In the Second Flight, first place honors went to Shirley Hunter with a 35.5; Kay McKee and Lynne McCrudden tied for second, each with a 36.
The ladies played a Florida Scramble for their May 25 league day. Carrie Weisz, Sheila Rogers and Donna Gregory captured first place with a 46.5; second went to Jan Kilgore, Claudia Johnson and Lynne McCrudden with a 47; and Barbara Sanborn, Barbara Lewis and Carole Howard were third with a 50. Immediately following the round, the ladies enjoyed a delicious luncheon at the Dogwood Grill at the golf club, and league vice president Donna Gregory conducted the general meeting for May.
The association’s traveling team, comprised of eight of its lowest handicap players, kicked off their 2010 season, with its first match play event hosted by the Cortez Conquistador Golf Club, May 20. The ladies garnered 27.5 points gross, and 32 points net against Pinon Hills, Participating for Pagosa Springs were Jan Kilgore, Barbara Sanborn, Carried Weisz, Cherry O’Donnell, Doe Stringer, Josie Hummel, Kay McKee and Leslie Fluharty.
The next team play event is slated for June 3, at the Kirtland Riverview Golf Club against Hillcrest.
