Business networking project meetings get underway

We are starting the business networking project meetings in June.

Owners of businesses of like tenure or type will be grouped in order to exchange ideas, solve similar problems and brainstorm to further their business goals. A successful business mentor will work with each group. A Chamber board director will adopt each group.

After the initial meeting, each group will set its meeting schedule, establish priorities and work on ideas or problems. Other business mentors with specialized interests can also be called on to talk about strategies regarding particular issues such as cash flow, marketing, etc.

Owners of start-ups or businesses of less than one year duration will meet Tuesday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at the Galles Properties office downtown. The mentor for the group will be Cindy Plate, owner of Galles Properties. Newer businesses often struggle with marketing and cash flow, and these areas are where some of Cindy’s strengths lie.

We will notify the business community as the other networking groups establish meeting schedules.

This is an exciting time for our business community. Learn from other successful business leaders, commiserate with business owners and establish camaraderie with your peers. Efforts like this networking group initiative can only strengthen our business community. There is no cost to join these groups, just the investment of time, with a return of tremendous knowledge.

To join one of the networking groups, either show up at the time and location designated or call the Chamber for more information.

Merchant meeting

With all the events of spring and summer upon us, improvement plans for the downtown area with signage and a new mural, and business ideas popping up all over, the Chamber would like to host a merchant meeting.

You do not need to be a Chamber member to attend, and you do not need to be in any particular location in town. Some issues considered at the meeting will focus on the downtown area, but we would like to solicit ideas from merchants located all around town.

Thanks to the hospitality of JJ’s Riverwalk Restaurant, the meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 8, beginning at 6 p.m. Complimentary appetizers will be served. We will inform everyone of upcoming events, find out what can be done to maximize summer business, begin working on the Parade of Stores for December, and listen to what concerns merchants might have.

So we can give JJ’s a head-count, we ask you to call the Chamber or drop us an e-mail if you would like to attend. Drop-ins are always welcome, if you find out that you can attend at the last minute.

Reminders

There are two free summer concert series in and around our community this season.

Beginning on June 2 and taking place every Wednesday until September, the Sounds at the Springs at the Springs Resort will take place. The concerts begin at 6 p.m. and run until 9. Enjoy a fantastic venue, a chilled adult beverage and purchase some food or bring a picnic. The type of music changes every week but the caliber of music remains high. Take some time to stroll along the River Walk, watch kayakers, and listen to some wonderful music.

If you would like to escape for a day, head south to The Wines of the San Juans for the Sunday summer concert series. There is no cover charge as you listen to great music in a beautiful courtyard. On June 6, Jeff Solon will play saxophone jazz.

For all you hunters, our Chamber is helping out the Lake City Chamber by offering raffle tickets for a Ruger LCP and a .38 snubnose revolver. Tickets are only $2 per ticket or six tickets for $10. You do need to be present to win at the Lake City Armory on June 10, 7-8:30 p.m. or June 16 at the S. Hinsdale Sportman’s Campground from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Chamber.
