The Patriot’s Day Chuckwagon Barbecue, sponsored by the Republicans of Archuleta County gives you an opportunity to have an authentic old-fashioned western chuckwagon barbecue meal ,cooked on an open fire.
Harry Baxtrom, a veterinarian from Bayfield, has participated in chuckwagon competitions and will be serving a wonderful meal in Town Park on Saturday, June 26, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The meal will consist of brisket, spicy beans, salad, potato and beverage, with homemade bread and peach cobbler.
Archuleta County Republican Women and the Archuleta County Republican Central Committee are sponsoring this event.
While honoring our fighting men and women and veterans, you will also hear three candidates for top offices who are outstanding speakers: Dan Maes, candidate for governor of Colorado, Ken Buck, candidate for the U.S. Senate (the seat currently held by Michael Bennet) and Bob McConnell, candidate for the U.S. House (seat currently held by John Salazar). They will circulate after they speak so those attending can meet and talk with them. Also attending are state and local candidates who will be recognized so they will be available to answer questions about their issues.
Also planned at the beginning of this event will be a fly-over accompanied by patriotic music, along with the presentation of colors and the pledge of allegiance. There will be live entertainment, face painting and giveaways for children as well as some great door prizes.
The event is free, but tickets for the meal are $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Chamber of Commerce or by calling Barbara at 731-9916 or John at 731-4933. Reservations cannot be taken.
