Nelson Charles Metzler was born in Brookville, Ind., on March 6, 1933, and passed into the kingdom of the Lord at his home in Conroe, Texas, on May 22, 2010, after a lengthy illness from a stroke.
Nelson proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later studied engineering at the University of Houston. After a 40-plus year career in the industrial distribution business he retired in Conroe where he enjoyed time with family, friends, their Sacred Heart church community and traveling to their second home in Pagosa Springs.
Nelson is preceded in death by parents, Mary Agnes Selm and Charles Valentine Metzler. He is survived by loving wife of 55 years, Barbara J Metzler, of Conroe; sons Nelson Charles (Zeke) Metzler Jr. and wife Ashley of The Woodlands, Texas, and Jeffery James Metzler and wife, Gina of Katy, Texas; sister, Marlene and Dr. Paul Hirt of Greensburg, Ind.; brothers, Charles and Ruth Metzler of Addison, Ill., Robert Metzler of Houston, Texas and Rick and Peggy Metzler of Indianapolis, Ind.; goddaughters, Karen Metzler Mixon of Houston, Texas, and Lisa Hirt Sigmon of Berryville, Ark.; granddaughters, Aimee Metzler of Houston, Texas, and Laura Metzler of Changchun, China; grandsons, Max Metzler of College Station, Texas, Cody and Jake Metzler, and Zach Tracy of Katy, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N. Frazier Street, Conroe, Texas, with a reception immediately following in the church auditorium.
Nelson was a parishioner of Sacred Heart and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Nelson’s name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 109 N. Frazier Street, Conroe, TX 77301.
