ACS ‘Motorcycle Ride for Life’

On Saturday, June 12, Our Savior Lutheran Church RFL Team and Mountain Home Sound and Security will pair up for the second year in a row to sponsor the Pagosa Springs “Motorcycle Ride for Life” to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The 2010 Ride for Life is a Poker Run with $500 High Hand and $200 Low Hand prizes, as well as door prizes, a silent auction and live entertainment during the closing ceremony. The event is open to the public, and “cars” are welcome too.

Registration is from 9-11 a.m. in the parking lot in front of Mountain Home Sound and Security, located in the uptown City Market Shopping Center. You can’t miss it, just look for all the motorcycles and the crowd.

A donation of $20 for a single rider and $30 for a couple (on the same bike or in the same vehicle) includes one poker tally sheet per person and a door prize ticket. Extra poker tally sheets can be acquired for an additional donation of $10 per sheet. A limited supply of custom 2010 Ride for Life T-Shirts will be available for $20, first-come, first-served. The registration packet will include the “route,” rules and a mandatory waiver. Riders and drivers must be 18 years or older. For safety reasons, riders are encouraged to leave in stages anytime during the day and travel in small groups. The route will be approximately 100 miles with several stops where participants will draw a card and the participating business will record the card on your Ride tally sheet with an official stamp.

Publicity for the Ride began in early March, with flyers sent as far away as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington and Silverton, and to all of Pagosa Springs’ surrounding communities, with the hope we can draw more participation. The Ride flyer is also posted on the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce website, in many local businesses and at several area motorcycle shops and web sites. Our hope is to draw participants from both local riders and to bring people from outside the local area into our beautiful community. Help support this worthwhile cause by joining us for a great day of fun and excitement.

The closing ceremony will be held at Buffalo Inn Restaurant on North Pagosa Boulevard, starting at 3 p.m., and all tally sheets must be turned in by that time. Buffalo Inn has arranged a special price menu for the event and John Maun will provide live music including acoustic guitar and rock and roll music.

Mark your calendar for June 12 and join the fun. Although the Ride itself is an adult event, children are welcome at the opening ceremony with an opportunity to have their picture taken on some very cool bikes.
