‘Improvisational Dance to Live Music’

Elation Center for the Arts presents “Improvisational Dance to Live Music,” 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the Freedom Through Music Studio in the Sears Plaza Building.

Admission is by donation.

The theme for the May 19 “Improvisational Dance to Live Music” is relaxation. Free-form dance, yoga, tai chi, sitting back and soaking up good vibes — these are ways you can participate.

Paul Roberts is a multicultural roots musician who specializes in plucked string instruments from around the world: sitar, cello banjo, saz, cittern, mando-cello, cittern, charango, mandolin and guitar. Drawing on a selection of these instruments for this free-form music/dance event, Roberts will perform soothing original compositions and improvisations to support free-form movement.

A professional musician since the early ’60s, Roberts studied sitar from 1967 to 1970 — partly in India. Roberts has composed numerous original works for the guitar. His current fascination involves the resurgence of an early American instrument — the cello banjo — for which he has created several compositions in ancient stylings.

Freedom Through Movement Studio is located at 2800 Cornerstone Drive Unit A in the Sears Plaza Building. For more information about this event, and Elation Center for the Arts, call 731-3117.
