Katherine Ernestine McLemore Bowers passed away on May 1, 2010. Ernestine was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 15, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. Wade “Dude” McLemore. She spent her youth in Dallas, graduating from Sunset High School and attending the University of Texas at Austin. She met and married Eldon Franklin “Bud” Bowers of Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1941. They lived in Dallas for over 30 years where they were active members in Elmwood and Kiestwood Baptist Churches. In 1977, they retired to Pagosa Springs. Ernestine was a member of Pagosa Bible Church and enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and flower arranging, as well as bird watching. She was an accomplished painter, sharing her works with friends and family.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; a daughter, Patricia Bowers; and a grandson, Daniel Wade. Survivors include three daughters: Beverly Harlan of Austin, Texas; Diane Bower and her husband, Jon, of Pagosa Springs; and Kathy Norrod and her husband, Kenn, of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren: Stacie Mills, Mike Fryar, Jennifer Chavez and Jessica Norrod; and eight great-grandchildren: Sarah, Zachary and Rebekah Mills; Brian Montoya, Mandon Miller and Coltin Chavez; and Peyton and Paxton Fryar.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, at Pagosa Bible Church located on Harman Drive in Pagosa Springs. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 14, at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
