Gilbert G. Valdez, 85, of Alamogordo, N.M., passed away, Friday, April 23, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1924, in Pagosa Springs, Colo., to Feliciano and Josefa (Martinez) Valdez. He was a rancher all his life and worked for the city of Alamogordo for 20 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a loving and kind person and loved his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Rose Facker, Raquel Archuleta and Elsama Martinez.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Belen Valdez, of the family home; daughters, Nelly Valdez of Alamogordo and Carol Valdez of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, Gilbert Valdez, Jr. and wife Angie of Roswell, N.M.; grandchildren, Dolores Shields of Alamogordo and Aliyah and Sophia; a brother, Gene Valdez of Alamogordo, sisters, Phyllis Hakes, Delphina McFatridge and Arbella Martinez, all of Pagosa Springs, and 23 nieces and nephews.
The Rosary was recited Wednesday, April 28, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Dolores Otero.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Wednesday, April 28, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., Celebrant.
Pallbearers include Jose Guzman, Jr., Albert Chavez, Harbie McFatridge, Mathew McFatridge, Lucas Martinez and Jason McFatridge.
Honorary Pallbearers are David Garcia, Ricky and Rocio Norton, Ben Higginbotham, EJ Thomson, Leonard and Annette Candelaria, Eloy Martinez, Sammy Martinez and Tina and Freddy Sanchez.
Interment followed in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
