Pagosa Mountain Clinic, adjacent to Pagosa Mountain Hospital, was thrilled to receive a $100,000 grant from the Caring for Colorado Foundation last month. The purpose of this grant is for the renovation of the nonprofit clinic as it quickly develops into a full time, fully operational, primary care facility.
The current PMC facility, built in the 1990s and formerly known as the Dr. Mary Fisher Medical Center, will need various improvements to bring the clinic “up to speed,” as patient numbers increase daily. The grant will allow the clinic to make renovations and advance technologically, which will provide patients with an inviting and up-to-date facility. According to CEO Brad Cochennet, “Support from Caring for Colorado has been instrumental in helping to bring additional primary care to our community.”
Pagosa Mountain Clinic opened its doors on Nov. 24, 2009, as a “one day a week” clinic, and then on April 5, the clinic expanded the days of operation to five days a week, offering a primary care practice for the whole family and consisting of skilled providers who are invested in the people of this community. The goal of the clinic is to provide primary and urgent care, as well as wellness education and early detection services. The Pagosa Mountain Clinic will alleviate for many the hassle of having to travel outside of Pagosa Springs for care, not only because the clinic will have qualified providers, but also because PMC will accept Medicare and Medicaid, as well as most private insurances.
The Caring for Colorado Foundation, funding the grant for PMC, has been improving the lives of Coloradans since 1999 by awarding more than $50 million to nonprofit and government agencies, building health care capacity, strengthening the existing health care system and linking people to care. The foundation supported the need for a new primary care facility in Pagosa Springs, and the grant will help to ensure that the Pagosa Mountain Clinic will continue to move forward, bringing much needed health care to our community.
