With more than half of the state’s residents needing to renew their driver’s licenses over the next three years, the Colorado Department of Revenue is partnering with the Donor Awareness Council to promote online driver’s license renewal and encourage applicants to join the Donate Life Colorado organ and tissue donor registry when they renew.
“More than 2.5 million Coloradans will need to renew their driver’s licenses in the next three years,” said Gov. Bill Ritter. “Many will be able to renew online and avoid lines and wait times in driver’s license offices. We’ve made it simple for them to register as an organ and tissue donor online at the same time.”
Drivers can renew online if they meet certain criteria. They will also be able to choose to donate life by becoming an organ donor.
“Many people think they cannot be a donor because they are not healthy enough or are too old, but those are just myths,” said Charlene Hill, executive director of the Donor Awareness Council. “As of April 2009, Colorado ranks number one in the nation with a 65 percent donor designation rate. Thanks to the governor and our partners at the Department of Revenue, this renewal period is a great opportunity for us to continue the momentum.”
Drivers can check their eligibility to renew their licenses online at www.colorado.gov/vroom/renewlicense. If so, they can renew and pay online, and they will receive their new driver’s licenses in the mail.
