Fishing seminar series begins Saturday

Got a whopper of a fish story you’ve been dying to tell?

Join others like you Saturday at 8 a.m. in the Buffalo Inn on North Pagosa Boulevard for the first in a series of monthly fishing seminars for area anglers. There is no charge for admission; just pay for your breakfast and coffee, then spend the morning trading fishing tales with your peers.

Since the meeting will be an open forum, anglers are welcome to discuss strategies, recipes and hot spots, as well as bring their favorite lures and gear for show and trade. Reservations are not required, but anyone interested in attending can contact Gary Gray at 731-0739 or 749-3210 to help the hosts plan.

Potential attendees (or anyone interested in hosting a future forum) can also contact Gray by e-mail at

Tee-ball orientation

Registration for this year’s tee-ball season has closed and the six dozen 5- and 6-year-olds who have been registered will now be sorted into teams.

Whenever feasible, the recreation department will do its best to ensure parents’ requests to have their youngsters placed with a particular coach and/or player are honored; however parents are reminded that not all requests can be guaranteed.

On a related note, there will be a voluntary, tee-ball orientation night Wednesday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Yamaguchi Park on South 5th Street; parents and coaches will be reminded by recreation department staff prior to the orientation.

As soon as teams are finalized, coaches will be contacted with roster information. Games are tentatively scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays and will be played outside, weather permitting.

Teams may begin to practice by the end of next week, and games will not begin until April 21. The season will end in late May.
