Holy Week at Community United Methodist Church

Holy Week is one of the most sacred weeks of the year for Christians.  It culminates with the celebration of the Risen Lord on Easter Sunday.

There is a week of preparation before the celebration begins.  The week is called the Passion of Christ.  It begins with a supper on Holy Thursday, April 1, at 6 p.m.

The supper, this year, will be a stone soup supper for which each person is invited to bring something to add to the large pot of soup broth. Bread will be provided.  Following the soup meal, communion will be celebrated in the manner that it was celebrated at the first communion as Jesus and his followers gathered to celebrate the Passover meal.  Those present will move to the sanctuary in remembrance of Jesus’ move to the garden.  There meditation, prayers and thoughts will help one transport himself or herself to those in the garden that day.

Friday night, April 2, at 7 p.m., a Service of Darkness will tell of the death of Jesus on the cross.  It was this death that we, as Christians, recognize his sacrifice on behalf of all humankind.

Easter Sunday morning begins with the traditional Sunrise Service held at Golden Peaks Stadium beginning at 7 a.m.  Breakfast will be served by Scout Troop 807 from 8 to 11 a.m.  The regular 8:15 a.m. worship service and the 11 a.m. worship will be a true celebration of the risen Christ.  It will be celebrated with worshipping of God through praise, the word, thanksgiving, prayers, giving and a challenge to obedience.

As always, all are welcome, and child care is provide for all church activities and worship services.
