Spring workshop lineup at SHY RABBIT

SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts: Gallery, Studio and Workshops announces its spring workshop schedule, which includes new sessions of introductory: Printmaking without a Press I, Photoshop Basics; Ceramics from the Potter’s Wheel I, and Basic Ceramic Techniques & Hand building I.

WORK-Shops@SHY RABBIT are held in one of two spacious 1,000 square-foot mixed media studios, and are instructed by professional artist D. Michael Coffee.

Workshops currently scheduled through June include:

Printmaking without a Press I (three spaces left)

April 17 and 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Course fee: $215.

This two-day introductory workshop utilizes a unique hand-pressed printing process called “Reductive Ink”™, designed and developed by professional D. Michael Coffee.

Printmaking without a Press is high in content and uses inexpensive, low-tech materials that can be easily used in a home studio environment. It is designed for those with or without printmaking experience.

Workshop fees include all necessary course materials. Ceramic workshop fees also include a toolkit that participants may keep for future use.

Photoshop Basics (five spaces left)

Saturday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Course fee: $90; includes use of studio equipment as needed.

This workshop will cover the general principles of Photoshop manipulation specific to the needs of artists. It will focus on image/file formats, image sizing, cropping, and image correction. It will cover accepted practices for submission requirements to juried competitions, publications and newspapers (both online and hardcopy). The preparation of images to be used in promotional materials and Web site use will also be discussed.

Basic Ceramic Techniques & Hand-Building I (five spaces left)

June 5 and 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Course fee: $215.

This two-day introductory workshop focuses on hand forming, texturing, and assembling clay, all without the use of a potter’s wheel or other equipment. Students are introduced to coil, pinch, and slab methods of construction, preparing them for continuing work in ceramics if desired.

Ceramics from the Potter’s Wheel I (four spaces left)

This course runs five consecutive Wednesday evenings, June 2 through June 30, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Course fee: $275. Special glazing session - date to be determined.

Make-up sessions are available for students that are unable to attend all five consecutive classes.

Open studio time is also included in the course fee, providing an adequate amount of practice time for students in between classes. This optional practice time is available daily, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is highly recommended for learning and improvement.

This five-week introductory course is designed for novice and experienced potters alike. Participants will learn the concepts of wedging, centering, opening, pulling and shaping forms, trimming and finishing, and glazing.

SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts; Gallery, Studio and Workshops is located at 333 Bastille Drive; two blocks north of U.S. 160, off of North Pagosa Boulevard. The 4,000 square-foot arts facility houses a ceramic studio and fine art gallery, two mixed-media workshops, and two large exhibition spaces.

SHY RABBIT winter hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday, by appointment or chance.
