Youth basketball teams end successful seasons

Tuesday marked the end of this year’s youth basketball seasons for ages 9-12, and the recreation department staff extends congratulations to the 9-10 Gold team and 11-12 Red team for earning first-place honors.

We would also like to recognize this year’s volunteer coaches and sponsors, whose generous contributions of time and resources once again ensured an enjoyable season.

In the 9-10 division, we thank coaches Ed Furtaw, Katie Zufelt, Lisa Scott, Lindsay Hoover, Derek Lamoreaux, Darren Lewis, Dale Murphy and Joseph Garcia.

In the 11-12 division, we recognize coaches Andy Rice, Allen and Kim Thompson, Todd Miller, Tim Miller, Joseph Espinosa and Dan Schofield.

Sponsors for this year’s leagues included Cat Creek Trucking, Timothy Miller Custom Homes, Honda Hauls LLC, DR Builders and Devo Capital Management.

In addition to coaches and sponsors, we would like to thank all of the players and their parents and guardians who made positive contributions to this year’s leagues. As administrators, we recognize that participation in youth sports programs inevitably requires navigation of a few speed bumps, despite the best of intentions and planning.

So, for those who took occasional schedule changes, late game times and the occasional missed call in stride — thanks again for your exemplary sportsmanship, patience and support.

Lost and found

During the past few months, recreation department and community center staff members have collected numerous clothing items, water bottles and basketballs from the gym and locker rooms. These items have been placed in the “lost and found” bin in the community center office.

If you or your child has lost an item recently, it may be worthwhile to check with community center staff to see if your item has been placed in the lost and found bin.

Tee ball

The Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department will accept registrations for this year’s tee-ball league through April 1.

Any child who will be 5 or 6 years old as of April 1 is eligible to participate. Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and will be dispersed at local schools, as well.

Registrations are also available for download in Adobe format through the recreation department link at

Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates. Weather permitting, the season is tentatively scheduled to begin in early April.

Coaches and sponsorships for this year’s tee-ball teams are also needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture, and recognition in media articles.

For more information, call the recreation office 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Adult basketball

Adult basketball schedules are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and can be downloaded through the recreation department link at

Managers are reminded that team registration fees are $250 per team, plus a $30 fee per player. Team and player fees are due at the start of each team’s second game. Also, numbered jerseys of similar color are required attire for participation in this year’s leagues.

Rosters may carry as many as 15 players; players are eligible to participate if they will be 16 years of age or older as of March 1. Players may be added to the roster at any time throughout the season, but participants who have not paid the $30 player fee before the start of their second game will not be permitted to play.

The season will run through late April. Call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 for more information.
