Archuleta County Surveyor David Maley has filed to run for a fifth term in the post.
“I’ve been county surveyor for 18 years and there’s no reason to stop now,” Maley said.
Maley was appointed to the post in 1991, elected in 1994, and has run unopposed since.
“I’ve been the guardian of the public record,” Maley said, noting that his role is to oversee the information and answer questions for the town and county planning commissions, among others. “It’s an important position.”
Maley said when he began in the post there were many errors in the documents that were fixed and, since, he has tried to maintain the better standard.
Maley has been in Pagosa Springs since 1991, but started with Davis Engineering while in high school in 1966, working part-time until 1979, when he converted to full-time with the company. He became a licensed surveyor in 1986.
