The Pagosa Springs Community Choir began rehearsals for the 2010 spring concerts on Tuesday, March 2, at the high school band/choir room.
Those who haven’t registered should be there March 9 at 6:45 p.m., and the rehearsal will begin at 7. Dan Burch, who has assisted director Larry Elginer in the past, will rehearse and conduct the choir for the spring program.
Burch is the music director at Pagosa Springs High School, and the worship leader at Pagosa Bible Church. He and his wife, Venita, and their youngest son, Jared, moved to Pagosa Springs from southern California in 2006.
Dan is a native Coloradan, who moved to California to attend college. He received his B.A. in music and then earned his master’s of music at Azusa Pacific University. He has worked in a church setting and as a band director in a private school.
Dan’s wife, Venita, is the choir’s accompanist, who grew up in Oregon, and moved to California to earn her bachelor’s degree in music. She has played piano since she was a young girl, and has taught music students for over 38 years. In addition to accompanying the Community Choir, she also serves as the pianist for Pagosa Bible Church, assists with high school musicals, prepares students for festivals and All State auditions, and operates their home business, Rocky Mountain School of Music, where she teaches piano, voice and flute.
Perry Schjolin, another new Pagosan from California, will be assisting Dan, and conducting rehearsals when Dan has other duties. Perry is a computer technician locally, and has a strong background in choral and jazz music.
The choir will present the spring program the first weekend in June.
