Abade J. “Abe” Martinez, age 52, of Montrose, Colo., was found Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, after being missing since Aug. 2, 2009.
Abe was born to Jose E. and Mary D. Martinez Aug. 16, 1957, at Ouray, Colo. He spent his childhood and graduated high school in Ridgway. Abe worked construction jobs following his education. He enjoyed being around his family and friends. Abe’s grandchildren were very special to him, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, along with nieces and nephews. Abe enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains, playing darts and eating ice cream.
Surviving family members include his sons Leonard Martinez, Paul and Robert Gauthereaux, all of Montrose, and Brad Martinez of Brush, Colo.; daughter Theresa Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, Michael, Gabe, and Rudy Martinez all of Montrose; sisters Mardel Gallegos of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Veronica Martinez-Erie, Victoria Martinez of Montrose, Bernadette Davison of Olathe, Edna Candelaria of Salt Lake City, Utah; and seven grandchildren. Abe was preceded in death by his parents, Jose E. and Mary D. Martinez. A Vigil and Rosary is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. An inurnment will follow the Mass at Valley Lawn Cemetery, South of Montrose. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for a stone for Abe’s place of rest, c/o Abe’s sister, Veronica Martinez-Erie, 1681 Sneffles St., Montrose, CO 81401.
