Pagosa Springs resident Lucille Bernadette Rackham passed away on Jan. 21, 2010, in Andrews, Texas. She was 86 years old.
Lucille was born in Burkettsville, Ohio, on Feb. 11, 1923, to Henry and Lilly Herman. She married her life partner, Edwin J. Rackham, on Sept. 29, 1945.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Lucille raised her children and supported her husband in his career as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. Upon his retirement in 1971, Lucille and Ed moved to Pagosa Springs with their two youngest children, Chris and Tony. She was active an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a local Hospice volunteer for many years. She was preceded in death by Ed, who passed away on Nov. 21, 2002, and is survived by four children: Flak Rackham, and Susan Sands, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Christina Evans of Wink, Texas; and Tony Rackham of Pagosa Springs. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Tao, Jet, Mandy, Darian, Amy, Woody, Forrest, Ayriana, Emma and Hadley, as well as one great-grandchild, Isabella. A service will be held this spring, followed by the internment of both her and Ed’s ashes at Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs.
