Board member feature
Pagosa Springs Arts Council Vice-President Jeanine Malaney’s one-of-a-kind fabric collage paintings, watercolors and oil paintings have been exhibited in Arizona and Colorado.
She is represented locally by Wild Spirit Gallery and sells internationally from her Web site www.PaintingsWithFabric.com. She is a member of the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, the Durango Arts Center, Colorado Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society.
Jeanine took art classes in college and has studied with Pierre Mion (illustrator for National Geographic, Jacques Cousteau, and NASA) and Tom Lockhart (Signature Member of Oil Painters of America and Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters). Her preferred style is American Western Realism but she also enjoys abstractions of deep space telescopic landscapes.
“My artwork acknowledges a lifelong spiritual affinity with mountains and the cosmos and celebrates the glory of God’s creation,” she says.
Jeanine has a bachelor’s degree in theoretical mathematics from Indiana University and she did graduate work in computer science. She retired in 1999 from an exciting aerospace engineering career with Lockheed Martin. Jeanine and husband Dale moved to the cabin they built in Forest Lakes, Ariz. There she served on three community boards: the Domestic Water Improvement District board; the International Lions Club board; and the United Methodist Church Board of Trustees. Jeanine started the local book club and served as president of the local quilting club for two years.
Jeanine and Dale moved to Pagosa Springs in November 2004. Jeanine volunteered with Hospice of Mercy, Art in the Garden, the Methodist Church Council and serves on the Arts Council board. Jeanine and Dale have five children and five grandchildren.
PSAC is offering another great way for artists and board members to get together, share ideas, inspire one another, and build PSAC together. Join our artists luncheons every third Friday of the month at noon at Nello’s Bistro in the uptown City Market plaza. Our first luncheon will be held Feb. 19.
In response to our appeal for support from local and area businesses, PSAC would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to the Strater Hotel in Durango for donating a gift certificate for $50 for dinner at the hotel’s Mahogany Grille restaurant. This gift certificate will be used as a giveaway item during our 2010 Artist’s Studio and Gallery Tour.
There are many ways in which local and area businesses can support the Pagosa Springs Arts Council. Please log on to our Web site at www.pagosa-arts.com and click on the “membership” button to learn how your business can support our efforts to strengthen the arts in Pagosa Springs and achieve our mission and goals in 2010.
