Landowners in the area are encouraged to sign up for the fiscal year 2010 Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Pagosa Springs.
EQIP is USDA’s largest conservation program designed to conserve and improve land while it remains in agricultural production.
EQIP is designed to help landowners address some of their most pressing natural resource concerns, including forest health, irrigation system improvement, streambank stabilization, grazing management, soil erosion and wildlife habitat improvement.
Under EQIP, landowners have the opportunity to receive cost-share and incentive payments to assist with the cost of appropriate conservation practices. A conservation plan must be completed before a person can enroll in EQIP.
If you would like more information about EQIP or would like to complete an application, contact the NRCS office at 731-3615.
