Pagosa photographer Maria Kolpin has released a book of her work, “Pagosa Springs, Colorado Scenes.”
Kolpin was born in England and educated in Wisconsin. Her world travels started at age 8 and continue, with her Nikon camera slung around her neck.
Primarily a self-taught artist — aside from her participation in photography and painting workshops — Kolpin shoots what her heart sees. Kolpin worked in scientific research, taught high school science, worked as a registered nurse, started her own wellness business and served as executive vice president of a 60-year-old company. Following her retirement, Kolpin moved to Pagosa Springs and found time to pursue her artistic interests.
She has competed in juried art shows and county fairs. Her prize-winning work has been featured in exhibitions in Colorado. Kolpin is currently working on a series of photographs of the people and landscapes of the Southwest.
“The challenge is being at the right place at the right time, and a matter of seconds makes all the difference in the world,” said Kolpin.
Kolpin shows her work at Artisans of the Southwest, in Pagosa Springs.
Her book is currently available at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and at Rocky Mountain Wildlife Park.
