Ronald Darryl Hitti, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango. Rev. Dr. Dan Straw officiated.
Mr. Hitti was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Silverton, Colo., the son of John and Nettie Hitti. Ron was raised in Durango and attended one of the first classes held at Park Elementary School. He was a graduate of Durango High School Class of 1957 and joined the Air Force shortly thereafter. He was stationed in Seoul, Korea, and was an MP during his time in the service. After the service he attended Fort Lewis College and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1972. He worked for Nielson Construction for about four or five years before starting his own business, known today as Commercial Rock Products. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and also enjoyed remodeling the home that he lived in. He was a member of the Colorado Contractors Association. His family said that he had a very unique, and constant to the end, sense of humor. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
He is survived by Ronald Hitti, Jr. (son) of Florence, Ariz., Michael Hitti (son) of Chimney Rock, Colo., two grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Joseph G. Hitti.
