Archuleta County has been chosen to host the annual conferences for the Colorado County Treasurers’ and Colorado County Public Trustees’ Associations in June of 2013.
Archuleta County won the chance to host after members of the associations voted at their October fall conference, said Archuleta County Treasurer Betty Diller.
“I think it’s a great vote of confidence in the progress our county as a whole has made,” Diller said.
Four counties made presentations, vying for the opportunity, Diller said.
The county’s presentation focused on area scenery and activities and also “recapped progress the county as a whole has made through the efforts of residents who came forth and volunteered their time, as well as the many great employees we have here in Archuleta County,” Diller said.
Diller expects up to 130 people will attend the conference, which includes discussion of state statutes as well as training in various aspects of running a treasurer’s office, and features speakers from the state, banking and investment-related industries.
Diller hopes to meet this month with Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Jo Coulehan and Jennifer Green, the Town of Pagosa Springs’ staff representative for the Town Tourism Committee, to discuss the event, but said it’s early yet to discuss possible venues since new hotels and facilities may come into play before the event.
