Two spaces remain for ceramics workshop at SHY RABBIT

If you are interested in working in clay, but have little or no experience, then Basic Ceramic Techniques and Hand-building I is the perfect class for you. There are only two spaces remaining in this very popular two-day workshop, so don’t delay.

This class is designed for novice and experienced artists alike, and is also geared for individuals that are simply interested in expanding their creativity in a fun, relaxed and nurturing environment.

This is also the perfect opportunity to create one-of-a-kind, handmade ceramics for the holidays, that everyone on your gift list will enjoy receiving.

SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts: Gallery, Studio and Workshops will also offer intermediate and advanced classes in 2010 (dates to be determined) for those who would like to continue.

WORK-shops@SHY RABBIT are held in one of two spacious 1,000 square-foot mixed media studios, and are instructed by professional artist D. Michael Coffee. For additional information on Coffee, visit

Basic Ceramic Techniques and Hand-Building I-(Introductory)

This two-day introductory workshop will acquaint students with the clay forming process, and will also cover basic glazing procedures.

Those with clay experience will also benefit from learning and practicing unique techniques developed over the course of more than 15 years by workshop instructor D. Michael Coffee.

Basic Ceramic Techniques and Hand-Building I will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14-15. The workshop fee is $215, and includes all materials, glazes, firings and a tool kit that participants may keep for future use.

This workshop focuses on hand forming, texturing, and assembling clay, all without the use of a potter’s wheel or other equipment. Students are introduced to coil, pinch, and slab methods of construction, preparing them for continuing work in ceramics if desired.

Participants will return for a glazing class on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (included in the course fee). The work will be glaze-fired shortly thereafter and ready for pick-up prior to the holidays.
