Register by tomorrow for 7-8 basketball

Parents who wish to register children for this year’s 7- and 8-year-old youth basketball program have until 5 p.m. tomorrow to do so.

Children who will be 7 or 8 years old as of Nov. 15 are eligible to register. The 7-8 season is tentatively scheduled to begin in early November and will run through mid-December.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and have also been distributed to local schools. Registrations are also available online in Adobe format at www.townofpagosasprings.com (click on the town departments link, then the recreation department link). Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates.

Please note that registration for the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will begin in mid-November; the season for these divisions will not begin until early January.

Coaches and team sponsors for all divisions are needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture and recognition in media articles.

Youth volleyball

For the remainder of the month, all 9- and 10-year-olds will practice from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays while 11- and 12-year-olds will practice or scrimmage from 7:30-8:30 p.m. the same nights, in the junior high gymnasiums.

In November, practices will be moved up a half an hour; games will not begin until early November.

For more information, contact Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151, Ext. 231.

Disc golf

Anyone interested in exploring the game of disc golf can try out a newly-erected, temporary course on the south side of Reservoir Hill.

For the next several weeks, veteran players and beginners alike can test their skills on the nine-hole course, which occupies roughly five acres on the hill’s southwest meadow. Players can access the course by taking Hot Springs Boulevard to Spring Street. From Spring Street, proceed on foot through the gate and look for the first hole on the north side of the meadow approximately one-quarter of a mile up the road. Tee boxes and baskets have been flagged for better visibility.

The recreation office is monitoring the use of the course, and would like to hear comments concerning this location from disc golfers and others who use Reservoir Hill for recreational purposes. Anyone wishing to comment can call the office at 264-4151, Ext. 232. Comments can also be e-mailed to tcarosello@centurytel.net.

For more information on the game of disc golf and the course itself, contact Michael Carol at mcc@newmex.com.
