Hospital art exhibit is open to public

The annual Juried Art Exhibition opened Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Pagosa Mountain Hospital. The public is invited to view the exhibit.

Pagosa Springs Arts Council — a non-profit organization with a main objective of promoting local art and artists — is co-sponsoring the show for our community enjoyment.

The show will hang through Dec. 11 with each artwork having a listed price for sponsorship in the hospital’s or clinic’s permanent art collection.

Five sponsorships were confirmed at Saturday’s opening.

A silent auction Saturday had numerous pieces available: art glass items, original watercolors, pastels and photographs. It also included prints, carved limestone bookends, ceramic pieces and several other works donated by local artists.

Auction proceeds will be used to make up the balance remaining on the tree carving project by Chad Haspels, with any overage benefitting campus monument signage on the hospital grounds.

Artists with at least one piece in the exhibition are Sandy Applegate, Virginia Bartlett, Lavern Burton, Ken Einig, Laurel Epps, Maria Kolpin, Stephanie Lochbaum, Dale Malaney, Jeanine Malaney, Laurie McAnlis-McCreary, Pierre Mion and Karina Silver.
