Outdoor club plans annual Ski and Sports Swap

Are you ready for the winter sports season? Do you have your equipment? Have your kids outgrown their boots and parkas? Would you like to upgrade your gear?

For more than a decade, the San Juan Outdoor Club has sponsored a local Ski and Sports Swap that gives members of our community access to low-cost outdoor gear that is in good to excellent condition.

This year, the event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 , at the Ross Aragon Community Center.

The new location for the Swap will provide both buyers and sellers much-needed additional space for displaying and shopping for equipment. There is plenty of parking and, as always, there is no admission charge for this event.

Shoppers will be able to take a break from bargain hunting and enjoy delicious food at the expanded snack and bake sale area. The “Klub Kitchen” will feature homemade breakfast burritos this year as well as the usual wide variety of baked goods and beverages. For later morning shoppers, Chili-Frito Pies will be available beginning at 11 a.m.

Do you have equipment or clothing you would like to sell? If so, you can bring consignments to the community center either Friday evening, Oct. 23, between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. or between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. (You can begin your shopping at 9 a.m. sharp.) The club will charge a commission of 17 percent on each item that is sold for you.

While winter clothing and equipment are foremost in most minds this time of year, the club also gladly accepts such items as bicycles, helmets, skateboards, etc. for consignment. Please do not bring your “straight” downhill skis or your exercise equipment, however, as these will not be accepted for consignment. You are responsible for setting the price for your own gear.

You will have to pick up any unsold items you do not wish to donate prior to 2 p.m. Saturday. If you do not claim your items by that time, they will be donated to a local charitable organization.

A number of merchants from Pagosa Springs, as well as from throughout the Four Corners area, will bring merchandise to the sale. More details about these merchants, as well as further details about the Swap will be forthcoming in the next two weeks.
