The Silver San Juan Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) will hold its fall meeting Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Head Start meeting room at the Durango Northpoint Mall. Doors open at 9 a.m. The first clinic is at 10. The public is invited.
Two clinics highlight the morning session.
The first clinic, “A Beginner’s Look into Model Railroading,” comes from the national NMRA convention held in New Haven over the July 4 weekend. Allison Nataro, from Soundtraxx, will display her portable 5x3.5 HOn3 layout that she built by herself. Allison says this clinic “Is especially geared towards women and younger ages, as I am both. My goal is to take the ‘scariness’ out of starting in the hobby.”
The second clinic will be Martin Pirnat’s well-received “Signs of the Times,” about how to make and use signs for model railroads. Martin will show prototype signs and their function, review a history of modeling signs, and discuss several model sign techniques.
The all-day meet also features door prizes, the annual photo contest (must be a division subscriber — subscriptions and memberships available at the door), “From the Workbench” (where modelers display and discuss their current projects), favorite train contest, board elections, and ends with layout tours.
Directions to the model railroad layouts that will be open for viewing will be handed out following the meeting.
