Eino William “Sonny” Murrietta unexpectedly passed away on Sept. 27, 2009.
He was born in Butte, Mont., on Feb. 26, 1956, to Arturo and Doris Murrietta. He was raised in New Mexico and graduated from Thoreau High School. He later joined the Marines and served his country faithfully for four years.
He met and married Debbie Barrows and had lived in Pagosa Springs for the last 10 years. Sonny loved his family, restoring old vehicles, the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Murrietta, and four children: Roy and Audrianna Wagner, April Payne, Dawn Starr Murrietta, and Arturo Murrietta. He is also survived by his two grandchildren: Shianne Wagner and CJ Davidson. Surviving siblings include Mary and Kenny Morrow, Ina Mae Wegner, Sarah Cagle, Jack and Andrea Cook, John Cook, and Tom and Ronnie Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Doris Murrietta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society; Sonny was a two-year cancer survivor.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Restoration Fellowship.
