Dance Camp, show and dinner Saturday

This is the final announcement for the Arthur Murray Pagosa Springs Dance Camp and ’50s “Reel to Real” dinner, dance and show slated for Saturday, Oct. 3, at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave.

Pre-registration is necessary for the dinner, dance and show in the evening, and there are still several place settings available.  Call Deb or Charles at 731-3338 so they can have your tickets ready at the door.

There is also still room in all of the classes, which will run from noon until 5 p.m.  You can sign up for as many as five classes at the door when you register. 

This year’s roster includes the following:

• Noon to 12:50 — Beginning Country Western Waltz and Advanced American Waltz

• 1 to 1:50 — Beginning Rumba and Intermediate Night Club Two-Step

• 2 to 2:50 — Beginning American Tango and Intermediate Rumba

• 3 to 3:50 — Beginning Lindy Hop and Advanced East Coast Swing

• 4 to 4:50 — Beginning Country Western Polka and Intermediate Bolero

Each class is $10 per person, with all proceeds going to the teachers; and you do not have to have a partner to attend.  The instructors will rotate students so that everyone will get the chance to practice.  Dance classes generally end up pretty closely matched with the number of guys and gals attending.  There will be refreshments and bottled water provided during the classes.  Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that have smooth or suede leather soles (something that does not leave black marks or mud).  Rubber or lugged soles, sandals or slings can be dangerously inappropriate and very hard to dance in.

There will be a break between 5 and 6 p.m. when everyone will be able to change into something more suitable for the formal dinner party.  Everything from creased jeans, dress western shirt and bolo, to tux and tails will do for the gents.  Ladies, here’s your chance to go all out if you like.  Wear all the glitz and glitter you wish!  If you are traveling from afar, there will be clothes racks in the restrooms for your convenience.

Wine, coffee, teas, non-alcoholic punch and filtered water will be provided, and will be served starting at 6.  If you prefer something else, please BYOB.

A wonderful ’50s-style dinner will be prepared and catered by Christine’s Cuisine beginning at 6:30.   Roast beef, potatoes, carrots and gravy, or sweet and sour chicken breast, wild rice pilaf and green beans almandine are on the menu, with a mixed field green salad.  Dessert will include Deb Aspen’s apple pies, peach crisps, and an ice cream bar.  The cost for the evening’s festivities is $40 per person, just to cover expenses and the caterer.  Where else can you enjoy a gourmet dinner, homemade pie, wine, general dancing, and an awesome professional/amateur dance show for that price?  Plus, your ticket will enter you in a drawing for some exciting door prizes.  Come and eat, drink, be entertained and “boogie ‘til the cows come home” (or at least until 10:30).  There will be a variety of ’50s music, as well as some more modern tunes to waltz, foxtrot and tango to.  There’ll be swings, Latin styles, slow dances, and of course, your favorite Country Westerns music as well. 

For all participants in any of Saturday’s events, there is a special rate of $9 to join us at The Springs for a social soak on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. (weather permitting).
