Arthur Murray’s Pagosa Springs Dance Camp slated for Saturday, Oct. 3, is indeed a go!
The Let’s Dance Club will host the event at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave. Classes and times will be as follows:
• Noon to 12:50 p.m. — Beginning Country Western Waltz & Advanced American Waltz.
• 1-1:50 p.m. — Beginning Rumba and Intermediate Night Club Two-Step.
• 2-2:50 p.m. — Beginning American Tango and Intermediate Rumba.
• 3-3:50 p.m. — Beginning Lindy Hop and Advanced East Coast Swing.
• 4-4:50 — Beginning Country Western Polka and Intermediate Bolero.
Each class is only $10 per person (all proceeds to cover costs), and each student can sign up for up to five classes. Class tickets can be purchased at the door.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that have smooth or suede leather soles (something that does not leave black marks or mud). Rubber or lugged soles are inappropriate and very hard to dance in.
There will be a break between 5 and 6 p.m. where everyone will be able to change into something more suitable for the ’50s “Reel to Real” dinner, dance and show. Guys, dig out that suit that’s just taking up space (or at least don a dress shirt, tie and sport jacket with your creased jeans) and come on down. Ladies, this is your chance to shine: Wear all the sparkle and glitz you wish! If you are traveling from afar, there will be clothes racks in the restrooms for your convenience.
Wine, coffee, teas, non-alcoholic punch and water (all provided) will be served starting at 6. If you prefer something else, please BYOB. The cost per person for the dinner, dance and show is $40, just to cover the expense of the meal, beverages and the setting. There will also be a chance to win one of several door prizes with your ticket for the evening.
Where else can you wine, dine, dance and be entertained in style for this great price? Tickets can be purchased at Higher Grounds, or from Deb and Charles at 731-3338, but seating is limited. The caterer has been given a final count, but we still have some tickets left, so please R.S.V.P. as soon as possible.
A wonderful ’50s-style dinner will be prepared and catered by Christine’s Cuisine beginning at 6:30. Roast beef, potatoes, carrots and gravy, or sweet and sour chicken breast, wild rice pilaf and green beans almandine are on the menu, with a mixed field green salad. Dessert will include Deb Aspen’s homemade apple pies, peach crisps, and an ice cream bar.
Then, after dinner, don’t miss the opportunity to dance with the stars to a variety of CD music provided by Arthur Murray, throughout the evening; as well as being able to sit back and enjoy watching the professionals and some of their students perform exciting routines.
As an extra bonus for all participants of any of Saturday’s events, there is a special rate of $9 to join us (weather permitting) at The Springs for a social soak on Sunday. That gathering time will be announced Saturday.
