Harry Luther Gunn

Harry Luther Gunn, age 69, passed away suddenly at his home in Pagosa Springs on Sunday, Aug. 30. He was born December 30, 1940, in Jerome, Ariz., to mother, Gladys Porter Gunn and stepfather, Robert Gunn. Harry was very close to his younger sister, Bobbi, who lives in Lubbock, Texas. Harry served with the US Air Force in the early ’60s and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland. He obtained a B.S. in anthropology from Northern Arizona University in 1970, followed by a master’s degree in community education from Arizona State University in 1972. Harry spent several years working on the Tohono O’odham reservation as the Community School Director in Sells, Ariz. He then worked for Job Corps in Tucson, Ariz., before obtaining his elementary education certification to become an elementary school teacher in Midland, Texas. Harry retired and moved to Pagosa Springs four years ago and enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping and skiing with friends and was a member of the Gray Wolf Ski Club. Harry will be deeply missed by his close friends and family, and especially by his daughter, Rachael, and grandson, Nate. Harry will be remembered at a memorial service to be held Friday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church (on South Pagosa Boulevard).
