The fourth annual Mountain Chile Cha Cha, a celebration of the Southwest green chile harvest, will take place in Town Park on Sept. 26 from noon to 6 p.m.
There will be a free concert by Nosotros and another band TBA, a green chile cook-off and tasting, on-site chile roasting, a beer garden, food booths and kids activities.
GECKO will again be hosting a morning trail race (visit www.joingecko.com for details).
The second annual Patty Aragon Green Chile Classic will offer up $600 in prize money, including $200 to best chile with meat; $200 for best meatless chile and $200 for the “People’s Choice” award, which will be chosen by audience vote, and could potentially be one of the other two winners. This event will be slightly different than a typical chile cook-off because it features only green chile, a dish that is ubiquitous around our region, but not so well-known outside of New Mexico and southern Colorado.
There will be a $5 fee per entry and the total number of entries will be limited to 40. Entry forms are currently available online at www.folkwest.com/chile.htm.
