Local youngsters return to classrooms following the Labor Day Holiday.
Remember back to the excitement of buying your new school supplies and new school clothes?
“Will I pick the red or blue backpack? Or, maybe the green one?
“Oh, and what color shirt should I get for the first day back to school? I wonder what the other kids will be wearing?”
Perhaps the return to school, school clothing and supplies are not on your mind now, but these things, however, are on the minds of many parents and students in Archuleta County as the return to school grows near.
For many lower-income families, providing school supplies can stretch a family budget already made tighter by the current economy.
Operation Helping Hand (OHH) has been assisting those in need for more than 19 years. The organization is currently collecting monetary donations to provide school supplies and clothing for area children.
You can help OHH make someone’s first day of school (and in fact the entire school year) a brighter one by making a monetary donation to the school supply program.
Organizers report that needs are high this year and donations are necessary to assist our community’s students.
Those who wish to make monetary donations to the drive can send them to Operation Helping Hand, Wells Fargo Bank, account number 6240417424, or Bank of the San Juans, account number 20014379.
Monetary donations will be used to distribute vouchers so that families identified as needing assistance can purchase school supplies and clothing.
Thank you for helping those in need in our community.
