Humane Society Auction for the Animals

Only eight days remain until the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs 15th annual Auction for the Animals, Friday, Aug. 28, at the Pagosa Springs Community Center.

The Humane Society has been reuniting lost pets with their owners and finding new homes for dogs and cats that are abandoned or surrendered for a variety of reasons, since 1985. The annual auction is an important fund-raiser for the organization, to help raise funds to offset the expenses at the animal shelter.

This fun-filled evening is one you don’t want to miss. The evening starts with the silent auction at 5:30 p.m., with delicious hors d’oeuvres from Alley House Grille’ and Farrago Market Café’ and a choice of wines or microbrewery beer served in a keepsake glass. The silent auction will be followed by the live auction at 7:45.

One of the many items at the Auction for the Animals will be a whimsical cat-themed, large floor vase by Brent Shields Design.

Have you ever been to Hawaii? How about bidding on seven nights at a condo on the island of Kauai? Wouldn’t this be a perfect getaway in the middle of winter?

Enjoy the great outdoors? How about bidding on an El Rancho Pinosa guided fly-fishing excursion for one or two people.

Or, what about a round of golf for two, including cart, at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango.

Tennis anyone? Have you wanted to learn or improve your game? Local tennis pro Dale Schwicker has donated tennis lessons and a Prince tennis racket with case for your bidding pleasure.

The Humane Society is very excited to have received an original oil equine painting called “Splish Splash” from local artist Kathleen Steventon. Kathleen’s art has won many awards, including inclusion in the West Exhibition in Steamboat Springs and All Colorado Show in Greenwood Village. Her art on display at Wild Spirit Gallery here in Pagosa Springs and at Blackbird Gallery in Albuquerque. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to bid on this beautiful original piece!

Whatever your pleasure is, there are plenty of choice items to bid on, including a beautiful Australian Stock Saddle Company Somerset Poley English Western Trail saddle, lots of local gift certificates for dinners, eye exams, lift tickets at Wolf Creek Ski Area, tickets for a rustic cabin dinner and horse-drawn sled or wagon ride with a Clydesdale team from Astradddle A Saddle, and much more.

The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs does not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the A.S.P.C.A, or from United Way. Our Humane Society depends on revenue from private donations, the Thrift Store and fund-raisers such as the Auction for the Animals.

Remember, discounted tickets for $25 can be purchased until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Humane Society Thrift Store, Chamber of Commerce, Moonlight Books and the Plaid Pony.  Tickets will be $30 Thursday, Friday and at the door.
