There is a frenzy of last-minute activity across the county as members and friends of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church prepare for the annual Shamrock Festival. Scheduled for Aug. 22, this year’s affair includes a delectable Italian dinner, raffle drawing for a beautifully crafted quilt, Silent Auction and the always-popular Book Nook.
Parish Priest Father Doug Neel believes, “the annual Shamrock Festival has become an event enthusiastically supported by members of the community because all festival proceeds are awarded to local non-profit organizations. Archuleta County service organizations are experiencing an increased demand for services by a growing number of residents. At St. Patrick’s Church, our Community Outreach Programs, such as the Shamrock Festival, are an extremely important mission that supports our community.” In 2008, St. Patrick’s Church donated more than $14,500 to local outreach projects.
Reflecting the evening’s Italian theme, music will be provided by the Chairman of the Board — Frank Sinatra. Dinner tickets include your choice of a glass of wine or beer. Additionally, bottles of wine will be available for purchase on each table and a cash bar will be offered throughout the evening.
Numerous talented local artists and craftsmen are completing their creations for the silent auction and include many one-of-a-kind items created especially for the evening. Local contractor Tim Miller has constructed a 6-foot wooden picnic table with benches and a talented local glass artist has added one of his beautiful fused-glass serving pieces to the auction collection. Creative auction items offered by several exceptional local cooks include “Pie a Month for a Year” and “Pizza a Month for a Year.” Hand-turned wood creations, Coyote Hill B&B retreats, gift baskets, a 22-foot motorhome and dinners catered in your home add interest to the slate of fabulous auction items. No doubt there is an auction item that is perfect for everyone.
The raffle winner of the beautiful “Colorado Colors” queen-sized quilt and matching pillow shams will be drawn during the Shamrock Festival. Constructed of 100-percent cotton Bali Batik fabrics, the quilt was created by the talented quilters of St. Patrick’s Church. Raffle tickets are available prior to the Festival by contacting the church office and the winner does not need to be present to win.
With the winter snows just around the corner, now is the time to stock up on a variety of reading materials. The Book Nook offers a wide selection of reading topics in both paperback and hardback. At $1 per hardback and 25 cents for paperbacks, there is no better reading purchase in town.
The Shamrock Festival will begin at 5 p.m. on Aug. 22, in St. Patrick’s Parish Hall with dinner tickets available in advance at $20 per person.
For additional information about the festival or to purchase dinner and raffle tickets, contact the Church Office, 731-5801. St. Patrick’s Church is located at 225 South Pagosa Blvd., next to Pagosa Mountain Hospital.
