Beautiful weather and outstanding play graced the day for the Pagosa Springs women’s traveling golf team for their match play event at the Dalton Ranch Golf Club, July 23.
The association fielded eight of its lowest handicap players to compete against the Kirtland Riverview team. The ladies garnered 49 points net and 36 points gross for their best scoring effort in team play events to date. Team Captain Cherry O’Donnell said’“that the team played really well, and that we put ourselves in good position to move up in the standings.” The team is currently in fifth place gross, and eighth place net. O’Donnell added that “only four-and-a-half points separate second and fifth place gross, and only five points separate fourth and eighth place net.” Four match play events remain, and Pagosa Springs Golf Club hosts the next event, Aug. 4.
Competing for Pagosa were Kay Crumpton, Lynda Gillespie, Carrie Weisz, O’Donnell, Josie Hummel, Doe Stringer, Leslie Fluharty and Bonnie Hoover.
The association featured a “Florida Scramble” format for its league day, July 26. The ladies played in threesomes on the Meadows Pinon courses with a par 72 rating. Each team was grouped according to handicaps and recorded their net totals for the round.
Cindy Simpson, Carole Howard and Donna Gregory captured first place with a 47; Loretta Campuzano, Doe Stringer and Pat Deason placed second with a 50; and Julie Pressley, Bonnie Hoover and Jane Baker were third wit a 51.
